Executive Summary
Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in developed countries (source: BCC Inc., August 2004) and accounts for 4 million deaths each year in Europe, over 1.5 million of which are in the EU (source: Heart European Network 2004).
EU health ministers have recognised this and encouraged member states and the European Commission to advance treatment and encourage research (source: European Commission June 2004).
As a result this recommendation has taken root, with prescriptions for drugs to treat cardiovascular disease up from 162 million in 2002 to nearly 180 million in 2003 (source: British Heart Foundation, 2004); a similar trend with devices has followed suit.
As a result of positive feedback received from Business Briefing: European PharmacoTherapy (which gave an in-depth overview of the European pharma market covering cardiology) and the inaugural edition of US Cardiology (produced specifically for the US cardiovascular market) by readers, media partners and clients alike, Touch Briefings is pleased to introduce the inaugural edition of European Cardiology. Business Briefing: European Cardiology 2005 will bring together leading industry experts in each specialised sector within cardiovascular care, in order to provide physicians, surgeons and professionals who come into daily contact with cardiac patients with comprehensive information on the latest innovations and developments they require to diagnose and treat their patients effectively. The publication will be produced with a supporting website, containing technical and specifying information from leading drug therapy and device suppliers in the European cardiology market.
