President, International Society for Antiviral Research (ISAR)
Amy K Patick, PhD, is President of the International Society for Antiviral Research (ISAR). She is also Senior Director and
Head of the Antiviral Biology Therapeutic Area at Pfizer Global Research and Development in La Jolla. She has been
involved in antiviral drug research since 1990 and her research is currently focused on antiviral chemotherapy and the
emergence of resistance to antiviral agents, particularly directed to HIV, hepatitis C virus, and picornavirus. ■
Susan J Rehm, MD
Medical Director, National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID)
Susan J Rehm, MD, is an infectious diseases specialist and a Staff Physician at the Cleveland Clinic, where she
serves as Vice Chair of the Clinic’s Department of Infectious Disease. Dr Rehm also holds faculty appointments at
the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University and Ohio State University. She
is a Fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) and the American College of Physicians (ACP). ■
Sue Sebazco, RN, BS, CIC
Infection Prevention/Employee Health Director, Arlington Memorial Hospital
Sue Sebazco, RN, BS, CIC, is the Infection Prevention/Employee Health Director at Arlington Memorial
Hospital in Texas. She was the 2005 President of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and
Epidemiology (APIC) and currently serves as APIC’s Public Policy Committee Chair. She was a former recipient
of the Gerry Haynes Memorial Award for Excellence in Infection Control. ■
Thelma King Thiel, RN, BA
Chair and CEO, Hepatitis Foundation International (HFI)
Thelma King Thiel, RN, BA, is the Chair and CEO of Hepatitis Foundation International (HFI) and has served
as the administrator of three national voluntary agencies over the past 35 years. Mrs Thiel’s focus is liver
wellness, and she collaborates with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other
government and community agencies to train health professionals, educators, sexually transmitted infections
and HIV administrators, and outreach workers. ■
Paul A Volberding, MD
Founder and Chair, Board of Directors, International AIDS Society–USA (IAS-USA)
Paul A Volberding, MD, is Vice Chair of the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, and
Chief of the Medical Service at the San Francisco Veterans Administration Medical Center. He has been instrumental
in testing many compounds, including early studies in asymptomatic infection that led to the concept of HIV disease,
not simply AIDS, as the target of treatment. Dr Volberding is President of the HIV Medical Association. ■
Danny L Wiedbruk, PhD
President Elect, Pan American Society for Clinical Virology (PASCV)
Danny L Wiedbrauk, PhD, is the Scientific Director of Virology and Molecular Biology at Warde Medical Laboratory
in Ann Arbor, and President Elect of the Pan-American Society for Clinical Virology (PASCV). Dr Wiedbrauk’s
clinical and research interests include viral diagnostics, medical informatics, and the application of nucleic acid
amplification and sequencing technologies to the diagnosis of infectious diseases. ■
