Konstantinos N Malizos
President, European Bone and Joint Infection Society (EBJIS)
Konstantinos N Malizos is President of the European Bone and Joint Infection Society (EBJIS). He also serves
as Professor and Chairman of Orthopaedics in the School of Health Sciences, University of Thessaly, Greece,
and as Director of the Institute of Biomedical Research and Technology. Professor Malizos is a member of
12 scientific societies and has authored/edited more than 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals,
22 book chapters and two books. He has received nine international awards. ■
Bert Mandelbaum
President, International Cartilage Repair Society (ICRS)
Bert Mandelbaum is President of the International Cartilage Repair Society (ICRS). He has served as Assistant
Medical Director for Major League Soccer, and as the US Team Physician for three Soccer World Cups. In 2004
he was appointed to the International Federation of Football Association’s (FIFA) Committee on Doping Control;
he also served on the Sports Medical Committee and as Medical Officer for the Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004
Olympics. He graduated from Washington University Medical School in St Louis in 1980, and completed his
residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and a fellowship in sports medicine at UCLA. ■
H Michael Mayer
Past President, Spine Society of Europe
H Michael Mayer is Past President of the Spine Society of Europe and the German Spine Society. He is an
Honorary Professor of Neurosurgery at the Paracelcus Private Medical School in Salzburg and, since 1998,
has served as Medical Director of the Orthocenter, Munich. He also heads the Spine Centre, Munich.
Professor Mayer is a member of the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine (ISSLS) and
the German Orthopaedic Association, and is a founding member of the Spine Arthroplasty Society (SAS).
Professor Mayer has authored or co-authored over 130 scientific papers. ■
Jean-Yves Reginster
President, European Society for Clinical and Economic Aspects of Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis (ESCEO)
Jean-Yves Reginster is President of the European Society for Clinical and Economic Aspects of
Osteoporosis and Osteoarthritis (ESCEO), and a Professor of Epidemiology, Public Health and Health
Economics and Director of the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Liège,
Belgium. Professor Reginster is also Head of the University Centre for Investigation in Bone and Articular
Cartilage Metabolism and Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for
Public Health Aspects of Rheumatic Disorders. He also serves as General Secretary of the International
Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF). ■
Eivind Witsø
Vice President, European Bone and Joint Infection Society
Eivind Witsø is Vice President of the European Bone and Joint Infection Society (EBJIS) and General Surgeon
and Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, St Olavs University Hospital,
Trondheim, Norway. He is also an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the Norwegian University
of Science and Technology. Professor Witsø is a Past President of the Norwegian Orthopaedic Association and
was a member of the International Working Group of the Diabetic Foot between 1999 and 2006. ■
