Grace H Elta, MD, is President of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE). She is also Associate
Chief of Gastroenterology for Clinical Programs and Director of the Medical Procedures Unit at the University of
Michigan. Her clinical and research interests are in pancreatico-biliary disease. Dr Elta has served on the American
Gastroenterological Association (AGA) governing board during her term as Chair of the AGA’s Patient Care
Committee, and recently completed a six-year term on the Subspecialty Board in Gastroenterology for the American
Board of Internal Medicine. ■
Gary Falk, MD
Past President, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE)
Gary Falk, MD, is Past President of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE). He is Professor of
Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and Director of the Center for Swallowing and Esophageal
Disorders. Dr Falk has been a Staff Gastroenterologist at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation since 1986. He is also an
Associate Editor of the American Journal of Gastroenterology and a contributor to Gastroenterology. His research
interests are in esophageal disorders, primarily the field of Barrett’s esophagus. ■
Ronnie Fass, MD
Professor of Medicine, University of Arizona in Tucson
Ronnie Fass, MD, is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Arizona in Tucson. He is also Director of the GI Motility
Laboratories at the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System and the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center,
and Head of the Neuro-Enteric Clinical Research Group. He is also Chair of the American College of Gastroenterology
(ACG) Practice Parameter Committee. Dr Fass is the recipient of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA)
/Janssen Award for Digestive Sciences in Clinical or Basic Research and the Department of Veteran Affairs Investigator
of the Year Award (2004). ■
David A Johnson, MD, FACP, FACG
President, American College of Gastroenterology (ACG)
David A Johnson, MD, FACP, FACG, is President of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) and Professor of
Medicine and Chief of Gastroenterology at Eastern VA School of Medicine. He is Co-Editor of Reviews in
Gastroenterologic Disorders and Section Editor for Medscape Gastroenterology, Journal Watch Gastroenterology. He
has served as a primary advisor for national Medicare GI issues on endoscopy (CMS advisory committee 1995–8) and
was Co-Chair of the national Gastroenterology Medicare advisors from 1991 to 2000. ■
