monitoring of patients’ body weight allows to identify a high-risk period during which interventions can be implemented to avert decompensated heart failure.2

Current monitoring systems use scales,

including Internet-enabled scales, and self-reporting via integrated voice response (IVR). Interventions then come via telephonic notifications (calls from nurses, etc.).

The IDEAL LIFE Solution™

The IDEAL LIFE CHF Program has been successfully tested and shown to decrease the number of hospital readmissions and optimize at- home treatment. The IDEAL LIFE Solution™ combines the use of a wireless Internet-enabled scale with the remote IDEAL LIFE Information Management Platform™. When a patient steps onto the scale, their weight is immediately communicated remotely to a CHF automatic data analysis engine. Within seconds, information is logged and analyzed, and alerts generated and communicated in the appropriate manner.

Study results

A study was conducted on 417 patients with CHF in a Medicare Special Needs Plan. The patients were divided into two groups. The first group consisted of 217 patients who were required to call a toll- free number and enter their daily body weight over the telephone using an IVR system (the IVR group). The second group of 200 patients used the IDEAL LIFE Solution, which required them to simply step onto an IDEAL LIFE scale that automatically sent readings to the IDEAL LIFE Information Management Platform (the IL group). When the reported weights were outside medical guidelines, intervention calls were made by nurses (this was the same for both study groups).

Patient Retention

In the IVR group, 76 patients dropped out of the study (65 % retention rate), while only one patient dropped out of the IL group (99.5 %
